Email Marketing For Dummies

Email marketing  is one of the best ways to make serious money online, but you need to know how to do it right.

DO NOT go online and purchase a list of email addresses, and start spamming everyone with your affiliate link.   These are considered unsolicited emails and could get you into some serious trouble.

The people who you normally find on purchased lists, probably have already had their email addresses sold several hundred, to several thousands of times, have been spammed to death, and will in all probability NOT be interested in your product, if they even bother opening your email to read it.

Generally, many of the people on purchased lists, no longer even have, or use their same email address.

Many newbies to email marketing fall prey to this mistake, and pay dearly for it.

The real truth about email marketing is that many companies on the Internet offer highly targeted email campaigns.

Millions of emails are sent out by these companies, to get people to ‘Opt-In’ and agree to receive emails about specific products in targeted market niches.

These email marketing companies will not actually give you the email addresses; they send the emails for your campaign themselves.

Because these email marketing companies are reputable, and people on their lists have already “opted in” to receive emails from them on a variety of topics, they are not regarded as spam emails.

In addition, they actually LOOK to receive offers from you about your product.

For example, let’s say that you want to promote a dog training affiliate product.

First you find a company that has an ‘opt in’ database of pet owners who need information about training their dog.
Then create an email that presells your product, and include the dog training affiliate link in your email.

Dog training is a popular niche market, so lets say you email 10 million dog owners you presell with your dog training affiliate link.

Out of 10 million emails that were sent, you can conservatively estimate that 2% of the people mailed, will click through your affiliate link.  That equates to 200,000 impressions.

Out of those 200,000 impressions, or click throughs; you can again conservatively estimate that 2% will actually purchase your dog training affiliate product.  That gives you 4,000 purchases.

Secrets To Dog Training (aka SitStayFetch) has been the No. 1 dog training and behavior site for 4 years with a commission of $32.78 per sale.

Putting some basic math into it gives you a total sales of $131,120.  Not bad for an email campaign that takes only about a month to complete!

You might also consider the fact that the conversion rate for most of the popular items on Clickbank purchases is better than the 2% figure we used here.

On the average, good Clickbank products sell at a ratio of 1:15.  This means that for every 15 views, one purchase is made, which equates to about 6.6%.

Anyone can make a TON of money on the Internet using targeted email marketing; all that is necessary is a targeted email list, and an in demand product.

Using Banner Advertisements To Promote Your Website

There is a great deal of debate about using banner advertisements to promote your website however, one thing is definite, banner advertisements will bring in a significant number of visitors.

For high traffic websites, monthly advertising fees can be quite expensive.

However, it is probably cheaper, and in the long run much faster, using banner advertisements to promote your website, than it is to wait for conventional search engine optimization techniques to get your website to the top of the search engine results page.    Organic optimizing techniques can often take as long as a year to become effective.

Using banner advertisements to promote your website is a quick way of generating significant revenue from your website marketing efforts.

You can either pay to advertise on someone else’s website, or you can take advantage of one of the many free banner exchanges.

Below we briefly look at the pros and cons of each banner advertisement method.

  • Using Free Banner Exchanges

Free banner exchanges, are exactly what the name implies.  Yours and other websites, freely exchange each others banners.  Your banner is placed on their website, and their banner is placed on your site without any monetary compensation.

Although using banner advertisements to promote your website is free, there are two problems with using them.

First;  in order to get your banner on a significant number of websites, you could wind up cluttering your own website with too many banners. And, if you are running an affiliate website; your website visitors my be clicking on your banner exchange links, instead of your affiliate links where you make your money.

Second; some websites like to accumulate a lot of banners.  They function as a portal site, or a directory, without having any real content on their website.  You need to be particularly careful and very choosey about exchanging banners with these websites.

All you wind up doing for these ‘link farms’ or ‘banner farms’, is bring them traffic.   Nothing is really gained by exchanging links with ‘link farms’,  in fact they can actually hurt your ranking with the search engines.

  • Using Paid Banner Advertisements

Using paid banner advertisements will cost you money; but if you choose the right one, they can produce very good results.

Choose a site that doesn’t have too many other banners placed on the same page as yours.  The site should also not have any of your competitors links on the same page that your banner resides.

It’s also a good idea to make sure that the site you choose produces the amount of traffic that they say they will, and that your ad is placed in a position that invites visitors to click without being to ‘pushy’.

If you approach it in the right way and heed the tips you have just read about, using banner advertisements to promote your website can be an extremely profitable marketing strategy.

Why You Should Be Setting Realistic Goals

There are many reasons why you should be setting realistic goals, before you start a home based Internet business.

Have you ever wondered why some people appear to have little problem achieving their dreams, while others seem to work twice as hard and get nowhere?

Perhaps it is due to too much dreaming, and too little attention to goal setting.

Setting realistic goals is a major reason why people succeed in their home based businesses.

Setting goals can be used in everyone’s life to attain some desire.   Many of us to it every New Years, in the form of resolutions.

Goal setting can be as mundane is setting a targeted weight you plan to lose, or as important as targeting the date you plan on making your first million.

People who set realistic goals usually create a blueprint, or an outline of where to start, where to pause, where to drop back or ‘reboot’, and where to stop in their business endeavors.

Once you develop your business blueprint, you are better able to gauge where you are in the scheme of things, and determine if the steps you are taking are bringing you any closer to achieving your goals.

Setting realistic goals will enable you to track your progress in whatever business endeavor you set out to do.  It gives you confidence in yourself as you manage to achieve each goal, and serves as a motivator as you get closer to your end result.

When setting realistic goals, be sure to include and set realistic time lines to achieve them.  Be reasonable with your time lines.  Remember that it takes a good deal of time for any online business to make their presence known on the Internet.

The easiest way to dash your dreams, is to expect immediate results from a good business blueprint that requires time to work.

To be successful, setting realistic goals should be based on your capabilities, as well as known external factors.

Being overly ambitious can make your goals unrealistic and difficult or impossible to achieve. On the other hand, don’t set your goals so low, that you discourage yourself from achieving your true dreams.

Setting realistic goals is sometimes not enough to achieve success in your business.   They must be accompanied by self discipline and a positive outlook on life.

Once you have achieved a modicum of success, give yourself a pat on the back to keep yourself motivated.

A shure path to failure, is becoming too complacent once you have achieved one of your goals.  Backsliding is not compatible with motivation.

What good is a great blueprint that shows you where to go, and how to get there, if you lack the necessary discipline to carry out the plan?

Self discipline, self motivation, and a positive outlook  coupled with setting realistic goals, is a winning formula for achieving a successful home based Internet business.
