How Difficult Is Keyword Research?
Posted Under: Search Engine Optimization
Keyword research is not all that difficult!
Keyword research can be defined very simply as, discovering what words or phrases people use when they conduct their web searches on Google, Yahoo, or any other search engine.
Why do you want to know about the keywords?
Keywords research is used for a variety of reasons; some of which I have listed below.
- Keywords are useful in market research analysis.
- Keyword research is used to get information about specific products and services.
- Keyword research is used politically to determine voting trends.
- Keyword research is used in opinion polls.
- Keyword research can be used for just about anything else, including enjoyment!
You might ask yourself; How do I determine which keywords to use?
Every search engine has resources available for keyword discovery that are simple to use and usually free, however, it takes time to discover the “right” keyword or keyword phrase.
Google’s Keyword Tool, Google Suggest and Google Trends are available at no cost and are easy to use.
Keyword research involves many factors that actually determine what is being searched for.
Relevance, popularity, word usage, competition, PR ranking, backlinks, etc., are all determining factors.
If a keyword or keyword phrase is highly competitive, it is much more difficult reaching the top of the search engines.
When a keyword or keyword phrase has little to no competition, it is much easier to gain a high position in the search engines.
This is keyword research 101; however, those of you who have difficulty with keyword research, can still get good information by going to a paid site to search for the top keywords, such as Keyword Discovery or Word Stream. Many other sites are also available.
Both paid sites offer a free trial period, and provide basically the same services:
- Keyword Research
- Spelling Mistake Research
- Seasonal Search Trends
- Keyword grouping
- KEI Analysis
- Keyword Density Analysis
- Domain Researcher Tool
