Getting your product recognized, is why long tail keywords have become necessary in today’s search engine optimization.

thelongtail2In the early days of the Internet, all you had to do to find a website, that had what you were searching for, was to put a few keywords into the search engine you were using.

These days, there are multi millions of websites online, selling just about any product you can think of.

With all these websites online, the difficulty in finding something that you have for sale, by a potential customer, is magnified a thousandfold.

Searching for your product online, using only a single keyword, is no longer as productive as it used to be.

Most people who search for a product online, realize that a single keyword, used alone, will not provide the information they are looking for.

They’ve learned to narrow their search results, by using more specific search queries.

For instance; savvy users know better than to just search for “glasses”.

That query alone produces 94,000,000 search results, and includes several definitions.

Narrowing the search to “personalized shot glasses”, further defines the information needed, and makes the results more useful.

The search phrase “personalized shot glasses”, is considered a long tail keyword; and is what you would use to identify your product on your website or sales page, if you were marketing personalized shot glasses.

Why long tail keywords?

Any descriptive phrase is considered a long tail keyword, when it  is an actual search query.

Therefore, in order to effectively optimize your website; you need to create content to match the long tail keyword search query, so visitors who search for information using the term, come to your website.

It’s important that the long tail keywords you plan to use for your articles, blogs and press releases; are what other people are more than likely to use, when they perform an  online search for products, or services, from your website.

This is why long tail keywords can make a huge difference when you are working to get your website recognized online.
