Website Usability: Is Your Website Full Of Cobwebs?
Nothing will drive away visitors faster than a website full of cobwebs.
If you’ve ever been surfing or searching for specific information on the Internet and landed on a site that hasn’t been updated in 4 or 5 years, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The Internet is constantly changing and what was impressive a few years ago, just doesn’t cut it in today’s fast moving society.
When people visit a website full of cobwebs that has outdated material, outdated pictures, and even an old copyright date, their innate distrust is heightened to the point that they just simply leave.
When people search for information on the Internet; they rightly expect to get current up to date information, not 3 or 4 year old material that is totally useless.
You can add some current information along with some of the newer enhancements like audio and video content to your website, to update your site a bit and make it more personal and interactive.
Visitors will stay longer on an interactive website, even if some of the content is full of cobwebs.
Lets face it, we all have short attention spans, especially website visitors. And, they will not stay on a website that doesn’t capture and hold their attention.
Your audio or video doesn’t have to be super sophisticated production quality to keep your visitors attention. It just has to be somewhere on your website where your visitors can easily access it.
Having your voice on your website is hugely beneficial. It goes a long way towards establishing a trust relationship with your visitors and makes your site much more personal and believable.
Cleaning out a website full of cobwebs will give you more chances to interact with your visitors, have them contact you, and convert them into paying customers.
If you have a website full of cobwebs; adding additional audio or video content and even a simple article occasionally, will keep your website relevant and have your visitors coming back for more.
